Scope of abrasive materials is very large. Surely, abrasives are indispensable in the manufacture of various grinding materials, such as sandpaper, belts, disks, grinding pastes.
Sandpaper is widely used in the processing of a variety of materials - wood, metal, glass, plastic and others. As a result of friction, defects are eliminated and the surface becomes smooth. Amazing properties of sandpaper are that it polishes superbly any objects. It first appeared in the 13th century, its inventors were experienced masters from China.
Despite its name, it is not made of paper at all. In China, a mixture of split shells, sand and seeds was used for its production, which were applied with glue to the parchment. Today, the production uses coarse cotton fabric, which is passed through a special device.
Silicon carbide and alumina (electrocorundum) are used to make the grinding materials. The entire production process is controlled by computer programs that monitor the density and technology of applying layers.
Manufacture process:
-
In the initial stage, the substrate is passed through the press. This process is carried out in a special container designed for this purpose. As a result, all technical information is printed on the material. At the end, the product is impregnated with water-resistant components, usually rubber or latex.
-
Next, the substrate is rolled through a punch press. This is a special equipment, thanks to which thermoactive glue is applied to the front side of the material.
-
A layer of abrasive material is placed on top of the glue.
-
After the abrasive material is applied to the paper, it is placed in a special furnace. The furnace contains several heating zones. In each subsequent temperature becomes higher. Due to the increasing temperature mode, the substances are glued to the glue. At this stage, the sandpaper gets a rough surface. At the end of the process, it is covered with a fixing layer, after which the material must be completed the final stage of drying.
In the manufacture of industrial abrasive belts used in engineering, rolls are cut into large sheets. Using machine tool, cut out the abrasive wheels: simultaneously roll four rolls and insert them into the machine, which cuts four ribbons into small rectangles at a time
